Daisy Does it Herself: A Funny, Heartwarming Romantic Comedy Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 1,569 ratings

Sometimes, the Last Place You Intended to Go is Exactly Where You Need to Be.

When 26-year-old Daisy's life in London comes crashing down around her, the only thing she can think of is getting away - far away. That's how she found herself stumbling off a train in England's picturesque Peak District - 150 miles from home, with no idea why she'd gone there and even less idea how she intended to get home.

As Daisy explores the gorgeous village of Upper Finlay, she glimpses the possibility of a different life. The Derbyshire Dales offer up new friends, new opportunities, and a distractingly dishy object of attraction in the form of local bookstore owner Alex (and his bumbling Great Dane.) When Daisy discovers Alex’s business is in trouble she steps in to save the day.

But London's Calling - literally. The life Daisy ran away from is calling her back. Why then, is she so reluctant to heed its call?

Daisy's got a decision to make: Will she play it safe, and return to what she knew? Or is she brave enough to take a leap of faith and create a bold, new life for herself in the last place she'd ever expected?

Daisy Does it Herself is a sweet, uplifting friends to romance, romantic comedy about the power of self-confidence, friendship and of course love! Fans of warm and witty romantic comedies with a guaranteed happily-ever-after will be entranced.

Daisy Does It Herself is such a fun and heart-warming story. The characters are incredibly well-written, especially Daisy - I found myself rooting for her all the way through the book. I would totally recommend it to anyone looking for that cute factor in a book' - Beauty Addict

'Gracie has one of those easy going writing styles that reads more like a chat between friends rather than reading a book. Daisy lives in London with a boyfriend who belittles her, while working at a job where nobody values her good work. Losing her job and her boyfriend in the same afternoon, our heroine Daisy boards a strange train, ending her voyages in a small town.

Once Daisy is in the small town, this story is funny, heartwarming, etc., exactly as advertised, and it was very satisfying. A hero with distinguishing marks, more than a generic hotness common to such guys in a romcom. Side characters that are interesting. A few surprises in the plot, but the HEA you want at the end.

The first bit in London, though, went on too long. For me, that was just something to get through, not to enjoy. I know why it had to be part of the story, but the balance was off. A reader might want to just skim the book until the 15% mark. I wish I'd done that.

There were a small number of typos; almost all were wrong word choices. Like, "in all honestly" instead of "in all honesty." Or like the omission of an apostrophe ("Toms house" instead of "Tom's house").

In Daisy Does it Herself, the main character (Daisy) leaves London in a rush to get away from a bad situation and ends up at the end of the line in some little town and there’s a guy who owns a book shop café 😮. Enough said. But seriously this book was delightful and romantic (closed door) and funny amd some characters were maddening and the whole thing was a great read.

This is an easy reading chick-lit that was fun to read. The author developed the characters well and there was a good sense of place. Easy reading for the book, plane, a snowy day or insomnia! Best of all - a happily ever after.

Featuring ~ single 1st person POV, cheating, small town, slow burn, insta-love~ish, not a lick of steamage, finding your true calling

Daisy has had the worst day of her life, but it turns out falling asleep on the train was the best thing to ever happen to her.

Predictability galore, but still a cute little story.

Here is what was most enjoyable for me:
    ~ Bookshop atmosphere
~ How Alex took over the bookshop to keep his father's legacy alive
    ~ Wolf the Great Dane
    ~ Alex's cooking skills
    ~ British lingo
~ New found friends that loved her for her
    ~ Tom's memories of Daniel
~ How Daisy found her calling and helped save the bookshop cafe in the end

Rightfully so I hated Phil ~what a tool and Daisy's mother wasn't much better. I hated how Daisy just accepted what was instead of sticking up for herself more. Good thing Alex was as delightful as plump and golden brown gnocchi. Overall, a quick and light read that had some fun moments.

*Thanks to Gracie Player, Rachel's Random Resources, Boldwood Books and NetGalley for my copy. I am voluntarily leaving my honest review*

I read this on a whim when I was deciding on my next book foray. The few books I had my eye on where of a dark nature, I'm up for that if it's written well. I read the blurb for 'Daisy Does It for Herself' and decided something lighter sounded nice and also to try a new author to me. I thoroughly enjoyed this book!. It was sweet, serious and also very funny. The storyline was interesting, centered around saving a bookstore being the second half of the book was exciting to read. I've put put the author, Gracie Player on my 'Authors Whose Work I've Enjoyed' list and of course put her on Follow on Amazon.

Daisy thinks she's in line for a great promotion at work, but instead gets laid off and goes home to find her boyfriend cheating on her. She jumps on a train and takes it to the end of the line, coming to a charming town filled with too-good-to-be-true people.

Alex is the "knight in shining armor" type, and he lets Daisy stay in the apartment above his bookstore. There's instant attraction on both sides, and Alex is truly a nice sweet guy, but for some reason Daisy is stupidly loyal to her cheating boyfriend. Her reasons made no sense, and I found myself getting more irritated with her as the pages went by, I thought Alex deserved better.

The ending seemed very rushed, it's a fairly short book so I thought there could have been a bit "more" than the abrupt ending.

Everything you could ask for from a romance - the characters were likeable, the cheeseiness was kept to a minimum and there was an actual plot outside them liking each other that was fun to read!

A lighthearted lovely story perfect for a quiet sunny day! I really enjoyed reading.
